Project Choice: US Indian Removal
Discuss which project you have chosen, why you have chosen it, and how you plan on approaching your project choice. This should be a brief 5 sentence paragraph and should provide as many details as possible.
I am doing the Detailed map. I am going to use color and show where the different tribes were. I'm going to include indian tribes throughout America in that time period. I might tell where they went when they were removed to.
I am going to do a detailed map of the United States of America. I am going to use a topographical map to show what type of land different Indian tribes lived on and were moved to. I am going to use different color lines to show the date of when the tribes moved and different patterns inside the land that a certain tribe lived in to show what tribe is living there. Also I will show the original colonies so people can understand how the Americans were pushing the Indians west and the dates of when it happened. This should be a good representation of what happened over the years until the trail of tears because it would show exactly what happened for visual and all types of learners.
I am going write a dialogue between Lewis Cass and Senator Frelinghuysen. I can take what I learned from the primary sources about Lewis Cass's opinions and personality and write a conversation that might have taken place before. This project will show my understanding of the thoughts of people in power for both the Native Americans and for United States government. I may also do the timeline or the detailed map for extra credit.
I am going to do a timeline. I will include at least 10 of the main events that happened around the Indian Removal Act. I will use different colors for different topics such as a treaty being signed might be one color while a war would be another. My points on the timeline with also include a lot of detail such as what tribe/ who it was concerning and what is was.
I am going to do the detailed map. It will include different tribes original location, their migration path, and where the tribe is today. I will use different colors for different tribes. I will also include if I can, the tribes original and current leader.
I am going to make a movie that will include a timeline, a map, and some oral presenting. I will use a map of the continental united states to show how the Indians moved over the years. I will Also talk and tell about what happened at what times, like a spoken timeline along with a hard copy of it.
I plan on using the timeline for my project. It will help me really understand the order of what happened during the Indian Removal. My plan is to do some research first on the internet, so I have important events and dates. Then I’m going to order them in chronologically. After all the events and dates are organized, I’m going to hand write them onto a horizontal timeline (probably several pieces of white paper taped together). I will also get some ideas for time line structures online and in books.
